Amongst the Indonesian Archipelago, Bali is a jewel that stands out above the rest. Its tropical atmosphere, serene landscapes, and beautiful beaches have a way of charming its visitors into coming back for more. In addition to the things we listed above, Bali is also known for its vibrant surfing culture. Some notable surfing spots in Bali include Canggu, Umalas, Kuta and Seminyak.

In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the surfing beaches in Umalas. Due to its location bordering both Seminyak and Canggu, guests who stay in Umalas have convenient access to beaches in both areas. Here are some notable recommendations for surfing in Umalas.

Batu Bolong Beach

Batu Bolong Beach is easily one of the best beaches for those wanting to catch some swells in Umalas. The waves here are characterized by long, sweeping rides making it a favorite for local surfing schools. This also makes it ideal if you just want to jump in the water and ride out some waves without having to worry about getting swept off your board or bailing on to a reef.

Echo Beach

If you’re looking for a more challenging surfing experience, Echo Beach is an excellent alternative to try. Located just north of Batu Bolong, Echo Beach has significantly stronger waves suitable for intermediate surfers. When conditions are just right, you can expect long rides that break both to the left and right. The swells are also fairly consistent and predictable in Echo Beach, making this a competitive spot for both local and foreign surfers.

Berawa Beach

Located just south of Batu Bolong and north of Finn’s Beach Club is Berawa Beach. This charming beach is an excellent alternative to the former and with fewer crowds. Berawa offers sweeping rides that break both left and right over a mix of reef and sandy bottoms.
